A gratitude mish-mash: 11.6.2009

by Nona on November 6, 2009

TheLookout_ChrisGin_FlickrNext week, I will be going into the hospital to have some pre-cancerous tissue removed from my lower stomach.  I will be in the hospital two or three days, and in true, beautiful, Italian fashion, they refuse to give me a release date.  In true American fashion, I find this frustrating and annoying.

And yet.

How grateful I am to be in a country with an excellent health care system.  In the hands of a world renowned specialist. With a support system of friends to pick up the slack and make sure Clara has a lot of attention and love and fun while I’m away.

In an amazing synchronicity, a kindred-spirit of mine, Teresa, had a really poignant and achingly human blog post about her desire to push beyond her body’s limits, post-surgery.  I kid you not, right as I clicked over to read this post, I was busily organizing in my head all the materials and gadgets I would be bringing to the hospital, to get stuff done during my recovery.  The list of things I will be taking to the hospital lessened significantly after reading her post.  I bow to her wisdom in gratitude. What a wonder the way life gives us little gifts like that well-time post.

In an additional show of synchronicity, a gorgeous poem about traveling light showed up on my virtual doorstep, which also seemed to be oddly instructive in regards to my upcoming hospital adventure. All those ways that I try to feel in control? Futile. Really, I need nothing more than what I already have.  I am surrounded by wisdom and inspiration, I tell you.

Always, I am grateful for the intricately woven and sturdy web of family and friends that supports me, loves me, makes me laugh, and keeps me moving in the right direction.  Blessings and love to all of them.

And to each of you, my gratitude – for reading this blog and for being someone who wants to live life on your own terms, with some grace and ease. This work – writing, teaching, coaching – has changed my life dramatically for the better. I hope, in some way, it changes yours as well.

In happiness and gratitude,

Nona dear: My thoughts and prayers are with you. I didn’t know. How glad I am that you do have that network of family and friends to get you through anything. I hope I get to know soon how your operation turned out. I realize it could have already happened. Kisses and hugs for you.

Milena
